A SUPERNATURAL reboot?!

Speaking with SCI FI Wire, Jeffrey Dean Morgan says that despite his blossoming film career he would be interested in returning to Supernatural as Pa Winchester. That would be newsworthy enough for fans of the show, but then the interview takes a weird turn and Morgan is suddenly talking about the show continuing beyond the fifth season by dropping the Winchester boys and starting over with a new cast, Reyes and Doggett-style.

"I heard that, too, getting new actors and everything," Morgan said. "Jared and Jensen wouldn't even be in it. I can't imagine Warner Brothers saying, 'Yeah, that's cool. You can get rid of Jared and Jensen.' They were going to, like, take on secondary characters, maybe. I just don't see that happening. If you take out Jared and Jensen, you're going to lose 90 percent of your audience, probably. I can't imagine them doing that, but it makes for a great [story] if you say that kind of stuff. I can't imagine that. Warner Brothers is just like, 'Yeah, whatever dude. We'll see you next year.'"

That's the first I've heard of this, and Google's not turning up anything, so I don't know how seriously to take this rumor. If there is anything to it, I agree with Morgan's take. Supernatural is absolutely about the Winchester brothers; that was true even when it was more of a "monster of the week" show. As much as the fans want the series to continue, if you drop Sam and Dean you're talking about a whole new series.
