Photographer Howard Schatz won second place in the Sports Stories category of the World Press Photo Contest with his series of shots of boxers before and after fights. Poor Jesse Feliciano here is far and away the guy who was most roughed up, but it's striking how a few of the boxers look so sad in the "after" shots. They have these terrible, tragic expressions, like they just had to euthanize their dogs or something. Even for pro boxers, getting repeatedly punched in the face must be a pretty traumatic thing. (And then there's Andrew Tsurkan, who steps into the ring looking like the freaking Terminator and walks away from the fight looking like the Terminator with slightly mussed hair.
