Mighty Boosh MIGHTY DECIDER iPhone app

Sunday, February 7, 2010

My girlfriend is one of those iPhone zombies. She's constantly fiddling with that infernal device and prattling on about all the wondrous things it can do. In my experience, the iPhone basically does three things:

1) It takes ten minutes to load up a website unless you are sitting directly on top of a wifi hotspot. Like, you have one under your chair.

2) It has a crappy onscreen keyboard that you can't use unless you have tiny fingers like a raccoon. Believe me, you don't know what frustration is until you've accidentally hit the same three freaking keys together, for like the fifth time in a row. (That's right, short people, laugh at the big fellow as he struggles with your tiny plastic toy phone. But never forget that you only continue to live at the whim of the tall folk. Anger us sufficiently, and we will eat you.)

3) It smudges if you so much as look at it across a crowded room.

At least, in the iPhone's defense, it really excels at being slow, too small and smudgy.

So, I'm no iFan, but even I might be persuaded to pony up the dough for one just so I could download the new Mighty Boosh app. The Mighty Decider features new animation (based on Noel Fielding's designs), new dialogue voiced by the Boosh boys and weird little games to help you decide stuff. A cartoon Vince and Howard explain in the clip above.

You really don't like the iPhone do you!

I think the slow web pages may be down to the network, I'm in the UK and O2 are pretty rubbish too, but they are getting better.

As for slow generally, I've got a 3GS and it motors along, I've got friends with different android / HTC phones and the speeds are pretty much comparable.

And as for the tiny on screen keyboard, you must have the fingers of a giant! That's not to say I don't hit the wrong key a few times, but three keys at the same time, that takes some doing!

Out of interest, what do you think is the best smart phone out there?

I'm no Apple fan boy and I only bought the iPhone once it was loaded with all the features it probably should have always had (typical of Apple), but it is currently the best phone I've ever used.

I do like the look of the boosh app though, so I might have a look at that.

I don't have a lot of experience with smart phones. I don't know if the iPhone has been hyped so much in the UK, but here in the USA we sure hear a lot about them. It's not so much that I think the iPhone itself is awful, I just think they really don't live up to the buzz. They seem like prototypes to me. In 10 years today's iPhones will seem quaint and people will be on to something much better.

Considering the speed at which technology moves, you are right, in ten years we will look back on these smart phones with a small smile and reminisce yesteryear! Just like we do today when we look at the phones we had ten years ago..... :)

However, the iPhone is probably the best all round package as far as smart phones go. I've had a few of them and my friends have other models.

The iPhone is NOT the best at everything, it does lack certain features.

It does however present a user experience that is first class, it's interface, the phone, just the sheer intuitiveness is way ahead of anyone else.

Apple did to the iPhone what they do best elsewhere. They take a device (smart phone in this case) and they wrap it up in with a great OS, great features (eventually) and just make things work how you want.

It's not perfect, it's not bleeding edge technology, but it is the best device I've ever used and I've had a lot!

They also created this new era of smart phones that brought Nokia, Microsoft, HTC and other hardware makers kicking and screaming into this brave new world.

Not to mention the amazing App store. I probably download a new App each week that makes me wonder how I lived without it. Yes, some are mundane or just plain silly. Others are amazing and make me work or indeed play in new ways.

I would not hesitate to recommend one to you or anyone else for that matter, especially no there is a choice of network! (In the UK at least!)

I'm coming from 12 years in the future to say that yes, smart phones have evolved lol
