DOLLHOUSE not doomed, yet

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

After a few weeks of relentlessly awful news for Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, The Hollywood Reporter now says that due to the show's surprisingly good DVR numbers, it looks like the series will at least survive until the end of the current season.

Fox scheduling chief Preston Beckman was surprisingly frank about the show's future and the network's reasons for renewing it this season.

"We're not saying we're happy with those numbers, or accept them, but we don't have to overreact. During [November] sweeps we might have to jack up the numbers a little [with other programming], but we plan on completing the order for this show (...) If you cancel it, you're an asshole; if you renew it and then don't put it back on, you're an asshole. I'm still paying for Terminator. Dollhouse has a small rabid fan base that in the world of social media seems bigger than it is. We gave them another season knowing full well we were going to burn in hell if we pulled it."

Whedon says he plans for the season finale to be a possible series finale, just in case.

"We'll definitely have closure, but will leave some doors open."

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
