Dr. Whitaker and Mr. Cent?

Friday, October 9, 2009

In an interview with MTV News, Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland, et al) says he's close to signing on for an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic 1886 story The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. In this version Whitaker would play Jeckyll, and rapper 50 Cent would play Hyde.

"It's a father-son kind of relationship," Whitaker said. "It's also (an interesting script) because we are dealing with similar things. You know, this Jekyll has a lot of issues and problems personally, himself. Hidden passions, hidden perversions — and it's acted out by 50."

Interesting. It would probably be more traditional to cast the young and conventionally handsome "Fitty" as Jeckyll and the hulking and more unusual-looking Whitaker as Hyde. But then 50 Cent is pretty intimidating in his own right and Whitaker is approximately nine times the actor that Mr. Cent is, so there could be a certain logic to this after all.
