WILD THINGS figures

Monday, October 19, 2009

I haven't seen the movie version yet and I'm not much of a toy collector, but I'm a little drooly over this new selection of figures based on Where the Wild Things Are. I'm a little sad, though, that from now on we'll probably be stuck calling these characters Carol, KW, Alexander, etc. While they were unnamed in Maurice Sendak's original book, years later Sendak revealed that they were named after his relatives: Tzippy, Moishe, Bruno, Emile and Bernard. How did Spike Jonze imagine that Carol was an improvement over Moishe? Nothing's an improvement over Moishe. (Click pic to embiggenate.)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
