New clip from SPLICE, the upcoming mad science thriller

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

I've been very curious about Splice, the upcoming genetic experimentation thriller from Cube director Vincenzo Natali. Cube is an underrated little mind-warper, and Splice has the potential to be a classic Frankenstein story. Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody star as two scientists who create Dren, a human/animal hybrid that rapidly mutates from a deformed infant into something larger and more dangerous.

The early form of the creature, seen in this clip, is a bizarre little plucked chicken thing that's horrifying and endearing all at once. You can sympathize with Polley trying to be gentle with it, and you can also sympathize with Brody for wanting to just gas it on sight.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
