THE WORLD - COLOR IT HAPPY

Saturday, October 10, 2009

Here's a fun little curio from animation history, courtesy of Mark Evanier. In 1967, the Hanna-Barbera studio attempted to launch their own TV anthology series in the vein of The Wonderful World of Disney. Their pilot for The World - Color It Happy brought together such diverse talents as Woody Allen, Hal David and Burt Bacharach, but only got as far as the pilot stage.

(Man, before Woody Allen became, you know, Woody Allen, the guy was simply everywhere in the 1960s. He turns up in the credits for just about everything made around 1966 or so, either for acting or writing or both. I wouldn't be surprised if you can spot him lurking behind the monolith at the beginning of 2001.)

Mr. Evanier has a little more info on his blog.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
