Another look at the man of 1000 (really freaky, painted) faces

Monday, December 7, 2009

We've previously featured James Kuhn (AKA Youtube user Bibleartwork), who is some kind of mad genius of face painting. With just a brush, some paint, and an occasional little prop taped to his head, he can transform his head into just about anything animal, vegetable or mineral. And I wouldn't rule out liquids, gasses or theoretical concepts, either. Here is a video of Mr. Kuhn in action.

I just learned that Kuhn has a blog where he posts updates on his latest face paintings and offers a little more detail about why he does what he does.

I'm interested in transformations. Pushing the boundaries of who i am inside and out, and what i can be. In reality, I am a middle aged fat, bald guy. With face paint I can be anything from a pitbull to Donald Duck. I can transform into a different sex or species with the flick of a paintbrush, just about anything is possible if it can be imagined. I have skill with painting. I have painted pictures all my life. I attended art school, but i am a natural painter, that cannot be taught in a classroom, it is a part of you. Tricks and shortcuts are what you learn over time in painting, but no one can teach you how to make art. I have painted my face now almost 500 times and i never seem to run out of ideas, in fact i believe i have barely scratched the surface of what can be done.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
