SHATNER SUNDAY: HOW TO HANDLE A WOMAN

Sunday, December 6, 2009

Good lord, the '70s were a rough decade for The Shat. Sometimes it seems like the guy spent every waking minute between the cancellation of the original Star Trek and the start of production for Star Trek: The Motion Picture racing to different studios around Burbank and filming clips that would embarrass the hell out of him a few decades later. Our Masterpiece of Awkward for today is this clip from the Dinah Shore Show in which Shatner talk-sings his way through How to Handle a Woman (from Camelot) while wearing a shirt that seems like it's probably violating some sort of EPA laws. Seriously, that thing's toxic.

I was insisting that Shatner was an underrated actor even before he started winning Emmys and stuff, but his acting in this clip really is just agonizing. I've never seen Shatner seem more like a bad Shatner impersonator.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
