TREK's Nichelle Nichols signs on for THE CABONAUTS

Monday, July 13, 2009

We knew there would be some familiar sci-fi faces appearing in The Cabonauts, the upcoming sci-fi comedy musical web series from Abigail's Teen Diary mastermind Hayden Black. But now Black has scored a real casting coup with Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek's original Uhura. Nichols will appear as CJ, the ill-tempered CEO of the series' space taxi company.

"Nicky’s character CJ comes from a long line of very successful women," Black writes. "In fact, she keeps one of them on her desk – the clone brain of her dead Grandma sits in a plexiglass container doling out unwanted advice. CJ had been COO of Farmer’s Seuticals, a top drugs manufacturer, but was ousted after being tainted in a financial scandal that she had nothing to do with. CJ’s now working as CEO of The Cabonauts Inc., a huge step down for her, but she’s going to give it her all."

In addition to the prestige Nichols brings to the series as an original Trek star, her musical talents also make her a natural for The Cabonauts. She discusses the project in the interview clip below. (And jeez, doesn't she look fantastic for a lady who is older than two Zoe Saldanas put together?) The clip also gives a few glimpses of the show, including a CGI shot of one of the cabs in flight.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
