WONDERLAND's online marketing machine gears up

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Call me a jaded old grump, but it was only a few minutes ago that I found out about Disney's big online marketing push for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland remake... And I'm already sick of it.

It's just too easy to picture a bunch of marketing monkeys sitting around a big table and thinking this whole thing up:

The Loyal Subjects of the Red Queen, the Loyal Subjects of the White Queen, and the Disloyal Subjects of the Mad Hatter are all building armies on Facebook. The fan page with the biggest army at 4pm PDT on Thursday, July 24 will get to see an exclusive new trailer from Disney's Alice in Wonderland before anyone else. So be sure to log onto Facebook and choose a side.

The Loyal Subjects of the White Queen: Facebook.com/WhiteQueenSubjects

The Disloyal Subjects of the Mad Hatter: Facebook.com/MadHatterSubjects

I'll spare you the suspense: Johnny Depp's fan page is going to win, because the only people who are going to vote in this stupid "contest" are 12-year-old girls with way, way too much time on their hands.

In related news, Disney has launched a website for the film. Not much to see yet, but if you haven't already seen the (pretty cool) photos and concept art from the film, there's that.

Got a tip for Monsters and Rockets? Want to contribute to the site? Send us an email.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
