CLASH OF THE TITANS remake footage

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Lately I've been worried that my posts here have gotten just a tad too cynical, that I've written too many variations on "this remake/reboot/whatever of a beloved movie/TV show/whatever from my childhood/teens/last freaking week looks so stupid/pathetic/horrifying that it makes me want to vomit/jump off a bridge/beat up whoever greenlighted it."

There are too many bloggers out there who just live to spew bile, they do endless posts about how Uwe Boll should be eaten by jackals and Heroes is the worst thing since the holocaust. I don't want to be one of those bloggers. I don't want to just become some smug, reflexively negative, eye-rolling jerkwad who talks like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.

All that being said, this clip from the set of the upcoming Clash of the Titans remake looks freaking awful. It wouldn't look so bad if this was just some new movie about Greek mythology that was trying to work that God of War vibe. But this is a remake of a Ray Harryhausen movie - admittedly not his strongest film, but a campy classic in its own right and one that absolutely does not need to be turned into some big 2010 tentpole release with a bunch of crappy CGI and explosions and slow-mo and all of that.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
