NEWSCHUNKS for 09.12.2009

Saturday, September 12, 2009

The news has been particularly chunky in the last few days, so let's get down in it.

PIRATES SEQUEL GETS A NAME: The fourth Pirates of the Carribean movie will be called Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides, giving rise to speculation that it could actually be based on a 1988 novel, with Jack Sparrow and company inserted into the action. That's a strange way to go about it, but I don't care where they get a story, so long as it makes more sense than At World's End.

DEL TORO TEAMS WITH DISNEY FOR "DOUBLE DARE YOU": Guillermo del Toro has finally explained what he meant with those recent coy hints that he was at work on a major project that started with the letter D. He's partnered with Disney to create "Disney Double Dare You," a family-friendly book, movie and merchandise horror imprint. The first project from the label will be a movie called Trollhunters.

FRANKENWEENIE WILL BE STOP-MOTION: Tim Burton has announced that he is planning to use stop-motion animation to realize Frankenweenie, the feature-length remake of his live-action short from the '80s.

ROBERT ZEMECKIS STILL PLANNING THAT HORRIBLE YELLOW SUBMARINE MO-CAP ATROCITY: He's releasing freaking press releases and everything. Well, I have bad news for you, Bob. If you actually go ahead with this thing and inflict a CGI remake of Yellow Submarine on the world, you will be a Blue Meanie.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
