The art of "Dr. Death"

Friday, September 11, 2009

Back in the '90s, Jack "Dr. Death" Kervorkian became notorious all over America for assisting in the suicides of the terminally ill. He was an enormously controversial figure of the time, but while his story was luridly sensationalized by the media (I mean, his nickname was Dr. Death), he made some persuasive arguments for the rights of the dying to end their lives when and how they wished.

Of course, if he was trying to convince people that he wasn't just some scary freak, he wasn't exactly doing himself any favors with his incredibly creepy artwork. (Fair warning: If you were offended by our little festival of Jesus comedy movies the other day, you really don't want to click here and see Jack's take on Christianity. Yikes.)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
