Crazy horror comics ads of yesteryear

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Start the new day off right with this gallery of ads from old horror comics. It's some wonderfully macabre crap, and if this stuff was still for sale I can easily imagine blowing what's left of my meager savings on "Monster I-Scream Spoons" and X-ray specs that would allow me to look at a friend's HEAD and actually see his THROBBING BRAIN within his SKULL!

(Fair warning on two points: first, the website hosting this gallery seems to be defunct, so we're probably not supposed to be able to see this stuff and it could go away at any time. Second, while most of this stuff is horrifying in a good way, there are some really crappy, racist latex masks in this gallery that are horrifying in a bad way.)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
