STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL deleted scene

Friday, July 10, 2009

If you've ever been lucky enough to see the legendary Star Wars Holiday Special, you know that it's 97 minutes full of bizarre, wonderfully horrible things. You got Harvey Korman as a drag queen robot cooking show host, Bea Arthur as a Marlene Dietrech-esque cantina bartender, a stoned-looking Carrie Fisher performing a musical number about "Life Day," and more.

But the following clip, courtesy of Youtube user Ocpmovie2, reveals a deleted scene that's arguably stranger than anything that made it into the final special. This was apparently a fake commercial that was supposed to air during a break in the middle of the special's cartoon sequence featuring Boba Fett. The first 25 seconds or so, featuring garbled, reversed words and music, was how the clip was intended to air. Then we see the clip run the other way, revealing that the "alien" language is actually a Canadian PSA about wasting electricity!

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
