View-Master and ASTEROIDS movies, and the hi-fi pizza of the apocalypse
Friday, July 3, 2009
Years ago, in his comic book series Eightball, cartoonist Daniel Clowes did a story called The Future where he gazed into his crystal ball and offered his predictions. In one panel, he predicted that the day would come when mankind had simply run out of ideas. Then we would endlessly recycle and recombine old ideas in all sorts of ridiculous ways, until somebody invented the hi-fi pizza... at which point the universe would apparently get sick of us, and the world would abruptly end. Well, a few minutes ago, when I read the news that actual motion pictures are in the works based not only on the cruddy old Asteroids video game, but also the View-Master toy, there was no denying the terrible truth.
We'll be eating our hi-fi pizzas any day now.
