Hello new visitors!

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Things have been pretty crazy here at Monsters and Rockets ever since I posted the Destino story. It made it onto Neatorama, then Metafilter, then the National Review website(?!) and just kept going. According to my hit counter, the traffic on this blog has increased by thousands per hour! Neat.

The sudden popularity of Monsters and Rockets has taught me a couple of things. First, Google adsense is kind of a hopeless way to "monetize" your blog. When you get 5 thousand visitors in an hour and you earn 2 cents, something is wrong. Second, that little "0 comments" at the bottom of each post is a lousy way to get people to comment. I have to figure out how to make the comments button more noticeable. It's kind of silly that the Destino post has been seen by so many people, without a single comment posted! (Apparently people see the link to my site somewhere else, they go to my site to read the Destino post, then they go back to the site where they started... to post comments about my site.)

Well, whether you post comments or not, I am thrilled to see all of you new visitors. I'm sure my 15 minutes of web fame will be up soon, but I hope that at least a few of you will keep coming back to Monsters and Rockets. I'll do my best to make this a fun place to visit.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
