Hi-Fi Pizza of the Apocalypse 2: The JOUST movie

Monday, July 6, 2009

The other day I wrote about the upcoming Asteroids and Viewmaster movies, and described how they reminded me of an apocalyptic moment in an old Daniel Clowes Eightball comic, seen at left. (Click this link to buy the Clowes collection Twentieth Century Eightball.) In an age of Asteroids and Viewmaster movies, the day of the Hi-Fi Pizza will surely be upon us soon.

Well, I feel it is my duty as a blogger to alert you to other dire portents of the End Times, and so today I am unveiling a new feature. Hi-Fi Pizza of the Apocalypse will chronicle all of Hollywood's most egregious rehashes, recyclings and recombinings. And I'm afraid we have a doozy today...

Comingsoon.net is reporting that movie adaptations are in the works for three old video games. There's a Mortal Combat reboot, but that's no big surprise. A Spy Hunter movie sounds pretty ridiculous, but it's been in turnaround for years with Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson attached to star, so it's not really news.

The real Portent of Doom in the bunch is Joust. Yeah, that's right. This old thing, with the little knights flying around on goddamn storks or some crap:

Somebody looked at that, and saw a movie. Freaking Joust, coming soon to a theater near you! And while you're there, drop by the concession stand and try the Hi-Fi Pizza.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
