DOCTOR WHO movie confirmed?

Sunday, July 5, 2009

Bleeding Cool reports that the BBC has confirmed a Doctor Who movie is officially in the works, with outgoing show runner Russell Davies writing the screenplay and David Tennant returning as the Doctor. The film will allegedly be released in 2011, so it would be well after Tennant has left the TV series and Matt Smith has taken over. Frequent Who director Euros Lyn is allegedly in talks to direct. (Click the image at left to buy the fourth season of Doctor Who.)

I have my doubts about all this, frankly. The site claims that the BBC made the announcement at the bottom of a press release for something else (they don't say what,) and this seems like something that would be very big news in England. The UK tabloids are constantly reporting every little Who rumor that comes along, after all. Also, much as I'd love to see Tennant continue in the role, it sounds a bit awkward for him to be starring as the Doctor in the movies while Smith is probably still struggling to find his way with the character on TV. (Even if Smith is great - and what I've seen of him so far hasn't dazzled me - early on he's going to face a lot of unfair comparisons to Tennant, arguably the most popular Doctor ever.)

I'll be curious to see what becomes of this story over the next few days.

Didn't previous Doctors co-star in movies while the current ones were still involved with the show?(ie the 5 Doctors)?Personally a movie wouldn't be that far-fetched,especially if Russell T. Davies was at the helm. All we can do is give it a chance.
