The Amazon.com mess, and our policy on it

Monday, April 13, 2009

Monsters and Rockets hasn't been online long, and it was only a day or so ago that we started running ads for Amazon products. Unfortunately, mere hours after we started, Amazon got caught up in this ugly controversy about their possible censorship of books with GLBT themes. The facts are still coming in, but while it looks like Amazon has implemented some troubling policies in the last few months, it also looks like the latest, sweeping ban on GLBT books wasn't intentional.

For now we're going to continue advertising Amazon products, but we are prepared to stop if it turns out Amazon is up to anything sleazy or repressive. In the meantime, we feel fairly confident advertising the wares of a company that has a long and (thus far) respectable history.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
