Roth plans THANKSGIVING and untitled sci-fi epic

We'll confess, we've never really been fans of Eli Roth. We like a really scary horror movie, but we've never been big on slasher pictures in general and the so-called "torture porn" of movies like Roth's Hostel series left us cold. We're not criticizing those of you who do like watching people get their toenails yanked out, it's just not our thing. (And hey, if you like watching people get tortured, go ahead and click on that picture to purchase the original Hostel and send a few nickels our way!)
But now Roth is talking about a new, two-part project that sounds really fun. First he's planning a real departure from his usual work - a sci-fi action epic he compares to Cloverfield and Transformers. He implied the film would be based on an existing property and there could be rights issues, but he declined to say what the film would be about beyond saying that it involved “mass destruction” and would be "insane."
“I don’t want to say what [the monster is] yet,” Roth told MTV. “Once it gets set up, I will let everyone know. It is not aliens or robots or a virus - it’s a little more grounded. But when people hear it they are going to be like ‘That is going to be insane!’.”
Roth also told MTV he plans to piggyback a smaller movie onto the production of the sci-fi epic. This project would be Thanksgiving, an old school slasher parody spun from the faux trailer he created for Tarantino and Rodriguez's Grindhouse.
“The plan is this: I want to do a huge budget movie, but tack on three weeks to the end of it and shoot Thanksgiving,” he said. “I want to do an $80 million dollar movie, and then schedule three weeks at the end to quickly shoot a $5 million dollar movie.”
