LITTLE SHOP remake coming

Like a weed, Roger Corman's 1960 blackly comic horror cheapie just keeps coming back. It was adapted into the hit stage musical, which was then adapted into Frank Oz's 1986 film, which then spawned an unlikely (and largely forgotten) cartoon series on Fox... And now Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O'Brien tells ShockTilYouDrop.com that he's planning a new remake.

"I just optioned the remake rights," O'Brien told the site this morning. "We're going to set that up as a studio feature (...) After I did this movie for Roger called Cyclops he was so happy he said, 'This is the best movie that's come through my doors in 20 years, so here's my catalogue, pick something else.'"

Little Shop of Horrors follows Seymour Krelborn, a hapless flower shop employee who cultivates a sinister, talking plant and makes a Faustian bargain with it. The original film was a campy affair that was made in mere days and looks it, while the Oz remake was much more lavish, featuring an elaborate and expressive killer plant puppet voiced by Motown legend Levi Stubbs. It sounds like O'Brien is planning to remake Corman's original rather than the musical.

"I have a take on it you're not going to expect," he says. "I'm taking it in a different direction, let's put it that way."
