CLASH OF THE TITANS remake casts Neeson, Fiennes

Thursday, April 9, 2009

SCI FI Wire reports that Batman Begins star Liam Neeson and Harry Potter's Ralph Fiennes have signed on to play warring Greek gods in the upcoming remake of Ray Harryhausen's 1981 epic fantasy, Clash of the Titans.

Neeson will play Zeus, the leader of the gods and father to the film's hero, Perseus (Sam Worthington,) while Fiennes will portray Hades, the lord of the underworld who schemes to overthrow Zeus. The actors previously worked together in a very different project - Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List.

While Harryhausen's original film has never enjoyed the same kind of acclaim as his earlier pictures (Jason and the Argonauts, et al,) it's still great, campy fun and it has some truly unforgettable imagery... Like the following sequence, where Harry Hamlin battles the little rubber Medusa that traumatized a generation of kids. (Note that this clip contains imagery which might be inapproproate for work or small children.)
