1884: YESTERDAY'S FUTURE

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

This is a proof-of-concept clip that Tim Olive made for 1884: Yesterday's Future, which he plans to turn into a feature film.

Olive has done special effects for Monty Python's The Meaning of Life and various Terry Gilliam solo pictures, and 1884 looks like it has some of that wonderfully twisted Python energy to it. Olive shot the clip on his kitchen table, using little puppets and models, photo backdrops, original artwork and computer animation. Even if this is as far as he ever gets, I'd call it a masterpiece.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
