CONFIRMED: Bryan Singer's GALACTICA reboot is happening, somehow

Friday, August 14, 2009

Entertainment Weekly has now confirmed yesterday's rumors that Valkerie direct Bryan Singer is actually going ahead with a big screen reboot of Battlestar Galactica, despite the fact the Ron Moore reboot just ended its run on SyFy and is soon to be followed by the TV movie The Plan, the Caprica spinoff and (rumors say) a few TV movie sequels.

Here's what the magazine has to say:

Battlestar Galactica is getting the big-screen treatment. Universal Pictures has confirmed blog speculation that Bryan Singer, director of Valkyrie, will take on directing and producing duties for a BSG movie. Glen Larson, who created original series back in 1978, will produce as well. The film is not expected to be a continuation of current popular television show that’s running on the SyFy network but will be a complete re-imagining of the sci-fi lore that was invented by Larson back in the 70s.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but between this, the J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot that totally junked all of the Next Generation stuff I grew up loving, and the recently announced Buffy reboot, it's starting to feel like everything is rebooting way too often, and way too soon. Jeez, in the case of Galactica, the last reboot hasn't even finished rebooting, yet! One reboot at a time, guys!

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
