Bryan Singer at work on yet another GALACTICA?

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Hitfix is reporting that X-Men director Bryan Singer is close to signing to direct a big screen version of Battlestar Galactica. This version apparently wouldn't be a sequel to the original TV series or the Ronald D. Moore series that recently ended its run on SyFy. No, this would probably be Singer expanding on ideas he had for the TV version of Galactica that he was planning back in 2001, the one he abandoned after the attacks on the World Trade Center caused network execs to have seconds thoughts about Galactica's apocalyptic storyline.

If you're wondering why the studio is going ahead with a Galactica reboot when the corpse of Moore's series hasn't even gotten cold yet, hang on to your frakkin' hat, because things are even more confusing than that. Earlier this year, it was announced that original Galactica producer Glen Larson was at work on another movie remake, one that also wouldn't be tied to the '70s series!

So... We have the original series (and its spinoff, Galactica: 1980,) Ron Moore's TV remake (and its upcoming spinoff, Caprica,) and the two planned remakes by Larson and Singer. Sweet lords of Kobol, that's a lot of Galactica. What's next? Battlestar Galactica: SVU? Battlestar Galactica: The College Years? Battlestar Galactica Babies?

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
