I really don't want to turn this into a gossip blog for geeks, but I've been sitting on a few rather trashy items for a while, and I just can't seem to keep them to myself.
GEEK GOSSIP I: I was recently surprised to learn that Coraline author Neil Gaiman and Dresden Dolls singer Amanda Palmer have become a couple. It seems they started to get romantic when they were on the road together promoting Who Killed Amanda Palmer, a book of Palmer's photos with Gaiman's captions. The pair even went to Comic-Con together, where they were part of what Star Trek star/blogger Wil Wheaton called the "Best Tweetup Ever".
MIRACLE LAURIE HAILS THE CABONAUTS' SPACE CAB: Miracle Laurie, whose dual role as Millie/November is easily one of the best parts of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, has signed on for a role in Hayden Black's upcoming sci-fi/comedy webseries, The Cabonauts. Click here for Black's video interview with Laurie, in which she sports a pretty awesome faux-hawk. The Cabonauts site also has a clip of Heroes' star David H. Lawrence talking about his role on the webseries.
GEEK GOSSIP II: I saw Clive Barker on TV recently, and I hate to say it, but the man looks and sounds ill. I'd noticed in recent years that his voice had become quite raspy and he had a generally unwell look to him, but these days it's genuinely uncomfortable to watch him - you want to send the poor guy off to bed. But I never hear anybody mention how sick he looks, and I have no idea if he has a serious illness or if it's just too many cigars and late nights. If anybody has heard anything about his health, I'd be interested to know. I'm hoping he'll at least be around long enough to finish the Abarat books!
BUBBA HO-TEP SEQUEL STRUGGLING: Speaking with the Onion A.V. Club, Paul Giamatti says the Bubba Ho-Tep sequel is currently in financial limbo. "We’re trying to get that made, man. We’re determined to get it done. I think it’s a tricky time in the movie business, and I think two years ago, it would have been no problem to get done. But people are fearful. We definitely have a line on some money, and hopefully the beginning of next year, we’ll be able to start shooting it. It’s a really good script."
GEEK GOSSIP III: Original Land of the Lost star (and "friend of the site," as they say) Wesley Eure came out of the closet around the same time as that piece o' crap Land of the Lost movie was tanking in theaters. Since then Eure has been speaking very frankly about his years as a closeted teen idol, displaying a courage even more impressive than he displayed when he was a teenager facing off against rubber dinosaurs.
XXX-FILES COMING: A while back, we brought you news of the "adult" Star Trek parody movie. Now it seems there's a naughty X-Files movie coming, too. (Warning: link is very NSFW indeed.) The sad thing is, it'll probably be seen by a lot more people than I Want to Believe.
