WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE trailer online
Friday, August 7, 2009
A full-length trailer is now online for Spike Jonze's upcoming film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, Where the Wild Things Are.
Looking at this trailer, I'd kind of like to see a little less Jonze and a little more Sendak. Certain elements - the deliberately crude fonts, for instance, and the indie rock - don't really jibe with the Sendak I know. There is a wonderfully old-fashioned, curmudgeonly fussiness to Sendak's work. When the Wild Things cut loose, I imagine them doing so to something like Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. And the Wild Thing faces seem perhaps just a little too human, I'd like to see more of the beastliness of the creatures from the book. Sendak's style is absolutely distinctive, but it's been muted quite a bit here for the sake of realism.
All that being said, it looks like this could be an absolutely amazing film.
