BARSTOW BONES

Monday, August 17, 2009

A few weeks back we took a short look at the long history of Pearl, the respected literary magazine that's been publishing since 1974. Pearl recently published its 40th issue, highlighted by my father's excellent short story Barstow Bones. It's a story of racial prejudice set in a small California desert town circa WWII, and the tension gets pretty unbearable as we follow our likable, Japanese American hero on his journey through the California desert circa WWII. Here, I'll let my pop tell you about it:

The issue is currently available, via Paypal, at his website.

My dad's been a college English professor for decades, and his Youtube page offers over 50 free, can't-miss video lectures and poetry explications... With a few bonus appearances by Archie the Poetry Dog!

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
