Images from Burton's aborted SUPERMAN

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Years ago, Tim Burton was attached to direct a big screen version of Superman. It was hard to imagine how his gothic style would work for the Man of Steel, and the project fell apart before we could see how it turned out. But now a few images from that aborted production have leaked out, and they're certainly... interesting.

Here's a Burton sketch for Brainiac, a supervillian that was reportedly going to be played by Pierce Brosnan.

It looks all wrong for Superman, frankly... But hey, it probably wouldn't have been much worse than Superman Returns.

Slashfilm has more, including that photo of Nicolas Cage looking extremely uncomfortable in rubber Superman gear that's been making the rounds online.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
