Moore teams with Gorillaz pair to create opera

Alan Moore has been many things...

The writer of such acclaimed graphic novels as
Watchmen and From Hell and such superhero fare as Superman and Tom Strong. Sometime cartoonist. Novelist. Poet. Publisher. Spoken word artist. Self-styled "magician" (in the worshipping-a-snake-god sense, not in the "abracadabara" sense). But now Moore is about to add yet another unlikely career to his resume: opera librettist.

Moore is at work on an opera with Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the pair who created the cartoon pop group The Gorillaz. (Albarn has his own sideline as the frontman of Blur, while Hewlett is the artist of Tank Girl and other comics.) This will be Albarn and Hewlett's second opera following their successful project Monkey: Journey To The West, which debuted in 2007. Moore has dabbled in music himself: in the '80s he briefly fronted the band The Sinister Ducks, and in 2007 he recorded a couple of songs with Eddie Enrico and His Hawaiian Hotshots.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
