A SUPERNATURAL prequel series?

Friday, November 20, 2009

Speaking with SCI FI Wire, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke says that he and the show's writers have been half-seriously mulling a prequel series set in the Old West that would follow the early days of the Colt pistol that can kill (almost) anything.

"When the writers and I are procrastinating in the room," Kripke says, "we sometimes discuss a possible Supernatural spinoff (...) a prequel that relates the adventures of Samuel Colt and the band of hunters who roamed the Old West. As I said, I consider Supernatural a kind of modern-day western, so it'd be cool to go all the way with it and make an actual horror western. And I like the idea that the Supernatural universe is a fleshed-out one with a history that goes back centuries. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll be able to tell that story."

I can sort of see it. But I can also see it lasting half a season. I'm having trouble remembering the last Old West network TV show that you could call a hit. Has there been anything since Dr. Quinn?

I would not be surprised to see the proposed prequel last as least for 3 seasons or more.

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
