MUSIC FROM SPACE: Nora Jones - CHASING PIRATES

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Nora Jones has produced some striking music and some unforgettable, surreal music videos. But while her latest single Chasing Pirates doesn't do too much for me, I had to link to it anyway because the video appears to be based on the Crimson Permanent Assurance pirates from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life!

I wonder if this was an intentional swipe (sorry, "homage") or if the person who directed this video came upon the idea of the sailing pirate building independently. Jones' video does look good (and Jones herself is ravishing as always), but I'd say the special effects are actually better in the 1983 original!

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
