More BUFFY motion comics rumors

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Way back in June, I reported on the rumors that Joss Whedon was about to launch a new online series of "motion comics" based on the Buffy: Season Eight Dark Horse comics set after the conclusion of the TV series. Then those rumors were debunked. Then the debunking was itself debunked.

At this point I won't believe the Buffy online series is real until I actually see it on my computer screen. But the folks over at SCI FI Wire are reporting that the project is finally going forward, and they even have a casting breakdown that includes a role for... Daniel Craig?

I was a big Buffy fan, but I gave up on the comics after a few issues because they were just too rushed, crowded and confusing. Sad to say, this was particularly true of the issues Whedon wrote. The issues written by others sometimes felt more like Buffy than the ones written by Buffy's creator did. (Go figure.) It could well be that the comics will work a lot better once they have an actual director to pace them and a cast to make that dialog work. Here's hoping, anyhow.

Darn it. There I go again, treating these Buffy rumors like they're real. You won't fool me again, Buffy motion comics!

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
