Matt Stone and Trey Parker's YOU AND YOUR STUDIO

Monday, November 9, 2009

Back in the mid-'90s, when Matt Stone and Trey Parker were just a pair of scrappy kids fresh out of college, comic filmmaker David Zucker commissioned them to make a short film to be shown at a Hollywood party. Stone and Parker had very little time to get the film made, and by the time they were finished they'd allegedly stayed awake for six and a half days.

With a production that frenzied, it's kind of amazing that the resulting film, You and Your Studio, is so ambitious and funny. Shot on the Universal backlot, the film features cameos by some of the biggest names of the era, everybody from Steven Spielberg to Michael J. Fox to Demi Moore. There are entire seasons of South Park that had fewer laughs than this thing.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
