MUSIC FROM SPACE: Grizzly Bear - READY, ABLE

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Via our friends at Cartoon Brew, here's Allison Shulnik's spectacular, beautiful, creepy and sad stop-motion music video for the Grizzly Bear song Ready, Able.

Two psychedelic, shape-shifting swamp monsters meet on opposite banks of a river and signal their friendly intentions by putting on a crazy transmogrification show for each other, until a sinister crystalline UFO arrives and abducts one of them, putting him/her/it on display in an alien monster zoo. Sure, it's a plot we've all seen a million times before, but it's certainly executed well.

For my fellow hardcore comics dorks out there: Doesn't this thing play exactly like a Swamp Thing story as rendered by one of the Fort Thunder guys?

(Note that this video features a short sequence after the credits!)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
