SHATNER SUNDAY: Epic music video for Shatner's LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS

Sunday, November 8, 2009

The Transformed Man is a mind-fryingly strange and hilarious album that William Shatner recorded back in 1968, featuring a mix of poetry and his own incredibly over the top performances of hit songs of the era like Mr. Tambourine Man. If you've ever heard Shatner's rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, it's hard to imagine any music video could ever be crazy enough to do it justice... But the clip below is perfect, a Monty Python-esque, psychedelic cartoon that mashes together Star Trek, I Love Lucy, Charlie Brown and I don't know what all else.

This is only the second official clip for our ongoing Shatner Sunday series, but I suspect we've already peaked. Seriously, how can it get any better than this?

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
