Eminem returns, parodies TREK, is still horrible

Thursday, April 9, 2009

Not so long ago, Star Trek was being widely written off as a dead, irrelevant franchise. But now, thanks largely to the buzz surrounding the upcoming J.J. Abrams reboot, Trek is inescapable once again. It's even boldly going one place it's never gone before: hip-hop videos.

Eminem has kicked off his attempted comeback with We Made You, a music video that finds him in a Mr. Spock outfit, giving the Vulcan neck pinch to Dr. Dre and having an Amok Time-style battle on a planet full of lesbians. Along the way he also parodies Sarah Palin, Jessica Simpson, Amy Winehouse, Rock of Love and other things that were relevant maybe nine months ago.

The song is kind of catchy, we'll admit it. But we've never forgiven him for bullying poor Moby. What kind of tough-guy rapper picks a fight with Moby?

Edited to add: Then again, anything that makes Bill O'Reilly furious can't be all bad.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
