The sorry fate of LABYRINTH's Hoggle

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Hoggle, as you will surely recall, was Jennifer Connelly's shifty if ultimately good-hearted sidekick in the classic '80s fantasy film Labyrinth. (Click here to purchase the Anniversary Edition) Well, we're sorry to report that after the film, Hoggle suffered a fate worse than being tossed into an oubliette or being crowned Prince of the Land of Stench... His rotting, foam latex remains are now on display at Alabama's Unclaimed Baggage Center.

Founded in 1970, the Unclaimed Baggage Center sells items that were lost in the mail and left unclaimed for more than 90 days. The Center also features a museum of particularly interesting unclaimed trinkets, and that is where you will find poor Hoggle. At least he's got some Jim Henson puppet pals to keep him company: characters from The Dark Crystal are also on display, including the Skeksis General. But the other pieces have held up a lot better than Hoggle... Don't click on that link unless you're ready to see a little piece of your childhood looking about as sad as it's possible for a moldy old puppet to look.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
