The ZOOMQUILT

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

I get the feeling that the Zoomquilt was a big deal online a few years ago, but I somehow missed it. Well, if you've also somehow made it this far without experiencing the Zoomquilt, get ready for a few minutes of total, stomach-churning surreallity.

A collaboration between many artists, the Zoomquilt begins on one colorful, peculiar image, zooms in to examine one part of the scene, and then just keeps on zooming and zooming through endless bizarre environments full of weird creatures.

The result is astonishing but also sort of nightmarish; within just a few seconds I had the feeling I was on a funhouse ride that was going too fast and just wouldn't stop. Imagine falling inside an issue of Juxtapoz and then just falling and falling, never reaching the back page. Like that.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
