Benedict Radcliffe's wire cars

Monday, August 3, 2009

The image to the left looks like a CG, 3D line art rendering of a car. But it's not. This is actually a wire sculpture by artist Benedict Radcliffe.

In the video below, he walks you through his artistic process. He describes himself as a "bender" (because he spends his days bending lots and lots of wire) and says his work is "totally, totally, totally hand done."

As beautiful as the results are, Radcliffe makes it clear that the work is just as hard as it looks. "It takes forever, and it's really boring."

Something tells me this guy watched Tron a lot when he was growing up.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
