The "Isolation Studies" of Chuck Jones

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Chuck Jones (no, not that one) is a man with a peculiar hobby: he tapes the audio from various TV and radio shows, and isolates certain elements. For instance, there's NPR Inhale, a 1998 piece comprised of 16 seconds of people gulping and gasping as they pause for breath during an episode of All Things Considered. For 2002's Loveline Questions, he recorded all of the questions that hosts Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew Pinsky asked callers during a 2-hour episode of the long-running radio advice show. Taken totally out of context, the questions are a mix of sad, funny and horrifying. ("Why didn't he rape you?") Jones also has clips of every utterance of the word "Buffy" during the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and still more audio peculiarities to sample. And when you're done, there's 920 KB of Corolla and Pinsky signing off. Alright, OK, good times!

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
