BEHIND THE SCENES PRINCE OF PERSIA MOVIE FOOTAGE: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and leading man Jake Gyllenhaal pimp the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in this ABC puff piece, with a few glimpses of the production process. Whether the final product is any good or not, this definitely looks like it will be the most lavish movie ever based on a video game. (Click the cover at left to buy the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time game.)

HALF-BLOOD PRINCE TRAILER ONLINE: The first TV ad for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is now on Youtube, and it pushes the teen romance stuff pretty hard. The sound quality isn't great, but the clip's watchable. (They better get these movies out fast, the kids are all looking post-collegiate at this point.)

BEHIND-THE-SCENES OF SURROGATES: Bruce Willis stars in Surrogates, an upcoming sci-fi thriller set at a time when people stay home and send out their better-looking android surrogates to live their lives for them. You can check out a making-of video here. Jeez, they really should've made the human Willis look worse or the android Willis look better, because as it is the only way you can tell the difference between "regular" Willis and "perfect" Willis is that RoboBruce wears a hideous blond wig.

GAMER TRAILER TRIES WAY TOO HARD, LEAVES BLOGGER EXHAUSTED: Gamer really, really wants me to get excited about the story of a convict being used as a human avatar in a deadly video game. But all the screaming and explosions and flashy cuts and Ludacris and Marilyn Manson just make me want to take an Advil and go stretch out in the backyard until this throbbing action movie migraine go away.

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
