V remake, EASTWICK series coming to ABC

Monday, May 18, 2009

Things are looking very '80s at ABC, with the news that the network is going ahead with a remake of the Reagan-era alien invasion series V, and a TV series based on the John Updike novel The Witches of Eastwick (although it will presumably be more inspired by the '80s supernatural comedy starring Jack Nicholson.)

Previously, Alan Tudyk (who will star in the V remake) told Sci Fi Wire the new show will be as good as fans remember the original being. (Click the picture at left to purchase the original V miniseries on DVD.)

"If you are a fan, which I was, of the first one, this is kind of everything that you remember, without going back and watching," Tudyk said. "If you go back and watch the original V, you're like, 'Oh, I thought this was great. It kind of looks really cheesy.' It fills in your memory as it should be."

The V remake has potential, although it's a little harder to imagine how Eastwick could be sustained as a series without quickly turning into Charmed. (Seriously, a trio of beautiful witches getting into supernatural hijinks every week... How many ways can that go?)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
