NEWSCHUNKS: LOST EDITION

Today I've run into so much Lost stuff I decided to just dump it all here in one post. Welcome to Newschunks: Lost Edition! (Click the image at left to buy Lost season 5 on DVD.)

NO LOST MOVIE PLANNED: A couple of years back, there was serious talk that a Lost movie was in the works. It was supposed to hit theaters a year or two after the series ended. It was an alarming prospect, because it suggested the show would end with enough major, unresolved plotlines to support an entire, big-budget, two-hour movie. Fortunately we now have a clip of Lost co-exec producer Damon Lindelof saying that no film is in the works after all, and never was.

EMERSON SAYS LOST SEASON FINALE WILL MAKE YOU EAT YOUR SOUL: In an interview with E! Online, Michael Emerson (Ben Linus) says that the upcoming season finale is a true game-changer, even more than previous finales. "Ours is a show that specializes in big shock endings, but I think season five…None of the other shock endings left me wondering how the show goes on... We have two kinds of huge shocks at the end of this one. Each one alone would be enough to keep an audience eating its own soul for the whole hiatus, but with two, I don’t know what you can do with that."

MORE EMERSON!: Michael Emerson has been doing a lot of interviews lately. (And why not? Ben Linus is one of the most fascinating, tricky little weasels we've ever seen on TV.) In an interview with the Onion AV Club, he reveals that for a long time the writers kept him in the dark and he had no idea Ben Linus would turn out to be such a crucial part of the show. "I remember one day, a director came to me—I had a line, Sayid was waving a gun in my face saying, 'Tell us who your leader is,' and I said, 'If I tell you, he’ll kill me,' and the director came and said, 'That’s good. Let’s take it again, and this time, act as if the leader is the scariest person on Earth.' And I said, 'Okay, I can do that, but what if the leader is me?' And he blinked at me a couple of times and said, 'I can’t discuss that.' [Laughs.] And that was it. From then on, I thought, “Oh, I see. This could turn into something."

LOST, SHAKY-CAM STYLE: Below you'll see an interesting video apparently shot by a crew member during a long take of a scene from the upcoming Lost season finale. (Needless to say: spoiler warning!) Various genre projects have shot on shaky camcorders to give their stories a realistic feel (Blair Witch, Cloverfield, etc.) but here it somehow makes Lost seem less realistic, almost more like a stage play.

LOST CAKE: Just in case you missed the show, here's Jorge Garcia's blog post about the cake the Ace of Cakes crew made for the Lost cast to celebrate their 100th episode.

SET THE TIVO!: Don't forget, Wednesday's finale is a special, two-hour episode.
