FRIGHT NIGHT, ANGEL HEART, PETER PROUD remakes in the works

Thursday, May 14, 2009

The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that a trio of horror remakes is coming. Alison Rosenzweig and Micheal De Luca are working on remakes of The Reincarnation of Peter Proud and Angel Heart, and the pair are teaming with Michael Gaeta on a new version of Fright Night.

Fright Night was a campy, 1985 vampire comedy featuring a typically juicy, late-career performance by Roddy McDowall as a burned-out horror movie star. (Click the image at left to buy the film on DVD.) Angel Heart was the 1987 Alan Parker mind-warper featuring Mickey Roarke as a detective investigating a case for a satanic Robert De Niro, while The Reincarnation of Peter Proud was a 1975 supernatural thriller that didn't garner great reviews at the time and isn't even widely available today. None of these movies seem like obvious candidates for remakes (well, maybe Fright Night) and as the Reporter article points out, Dreamworks hasn't had the best track record with horror pictures of late, having produced underwhelmers like The Uninvited and The Ruins.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
