MUSIC FROM SPACE: The Darkness - I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE

Monday, May 18, 2009

It's kind of impossible to really parody anything as excessive and ridiculous as '70s arena rock. The Darkness' soaring guitar solos, Justin Hawkins' earache-inducing falsetto and Charlie's Angels hair, the spaceship, the giant crabs... Really, if you put the video for I Believe in a Thing Called Love in a time machine and sent it back to 1975, they'd run it on Midnight Special and potheads across America would think it was outta sight, man. And those '70s potheads would be quite right. (Click the image at left to purchase the band's Permission to Land CD.)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
