MUSIC FROM SPACE: Basement Jaxx - WHERE'S YOUR HEAD AT?

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Let's start your Sunday morning off with this Basement Jaxx nightmare. Sure, you've probably heard the song about 20 times too many. (Was it actually featured in every single commercial produced in 2002, or did it just seem like it?) But if you've never seen the video, this thing will seriously mess with your head. It starts off rather comic, with this doughy, cynical record exec(?) on his way to the "armpit of nowhere" to hear what he's been told is the latest thing in pop music. Then itsuddenly gets kind of cute in a creepy way, when you see the band. And then the cute-creepy starts to go very, very wrong, very, very fast, and it gets worse and worse until the little doggie shows up, and you finally wake up screaming. Sweet Lordy, is this thing evil. Still... If these mad scientist guys decide to pull this number on Simon Cowell, I don't think anybody would complain. (Click the cover at left to buy the CD Rooty, featuring this song.)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
